Growing through trust and teamwork

Sales Manager Latin America, Mike Paarlberg, has been part of Royal Ingredients for more than three years. In his role, he’s responsible for developing relationships in new and existing markets across the region, supporting customers, and finding opportunities that create value on both sides. 

What he enjoys most about working here is the trust and freedom he’s given. “There’s a lot of encouragement to come up with your own ideas and strategies,” Mike explains. “You really get the chance to take ownership of your work and approach markets in the way you believe is best. It feels like managing your own small business within the company.”

At the same time, he values the support available whenever it’s needed. “If you face a challenge or want to discuss an idea, there’s always someone ready to help or share advice. That combination of independence and teamwork makes the environment very motivating.”

Working together at trade fairs
Mike regularly takes part in trade fairs and industry events, which he sees as one of the most inspiring parts of his job. “Meeting existing and potential customers gives a lot of energy. It’s the best way to build stronger connections and discover new opportunities,” he says.

These events are also moments of strong teamwork. “After a long day, we often have dinner together as a team, talk about what went well, share ideas for the next day, and enjoy a few laughs. It creates a good atmosphere and strengthens the bond between colleagues.”

A varied and dynamic portfolio
Royal Ingredients’ broad product portfolio keeps Mike’s work varied and interesting. “We can support customers with a wide range of products and always look for where we can add the most value,” he says. “Even when markets are challenging, there are always new opportunities if you stay curious and proactive.”

Building relationships through communication
Language plays a key role in Mike’s day-to-day work. Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, English, and Dutch, he sees clear communication as essential for building trust. “Speaking someone’s language helps you connect faster and shows that you’re willing to make an effort for them. It often leads to more open and honest conversations.”

Learning through experience
Since joining Royal Ingredients, Mike has grown together with his markets and colleagues. “What I like is that you learn constantly, from customers, from situations, and from your own experiences,” he says. “Being trusted to make decisions and build something gives a real sense of responsibility and satisfaction.”

Looking ahead, Mike’s focus remains on strengthening relationships and creating long-term partnerships. His story reflects what many at Royal Ingredients appreciate: freedom to take initiative, an open culture that encourages collaboration, and the opportunity to grow through real responsibility.
